Privacy Policy

Heedie is a household assistant that lives in your family's group chat. To be useful it has to know about your household, so this page explains plainly what we collect, what we do with it, who helps us run Heedie, and how you can see or delete your information.

The short version

  • We use your household's information only to run Heedie for you.
  • We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't share it with data brokers.
  • Heedie reads your calendar. It never changes it.
  • A small number of companies help us run Heedie (hosting, messaging, AI, maps and weather). They are listed below.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your data or to delete it at any time: hello@heedie.com.

Who we are

Heedie is run by Paul Dalton in New Brunswick, Canada ("we", "us"). Paul is responsible for how Heedie handles personal information. You can reach him at hello@heedie.com.

What we collect

About your household

When you set up Heedie, you tell us:

  • The names and phone numbers of the family members who use it.
  • Your children's first names and ages.
  • Your home address and its location on the map.
  • Your staff (for example a nanny, driver or house manager): their names, roles and phone numbers, and your rules for when Heedie may text them.

Your calendar

When you connect your family Google Calendar, Heedie keeps a read-only copy of its events (titles, times, places and notes) so it can answer questions and plan ahead. It keeps that copy in step with your calendar and never writes to your calendar.

Messages

Heedie stores the text messages in the chats it is part of: your family group chat, private chats with family members, and chats with your staff. With each message we store the sender's phone number and the time. This includes messages from people in those chats who did not sign up for Heedie themselves.

What Heedie learns

Heedie saves facts and routines it is told (for example "bins go out on Sunday night"), reminders, and messages it has drafted and is waiting for you to approve.

Your account

If you use the Heedie website, we store your email address and sign-in details. Passwords are stored in scrambled (hashed) form, never as plain text.

Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting providers keep basic logs (such as IP address, browser type and time of request) to keep the service secure and fix problems.

Please don't send Heedie sensitive details it doesn't need, such as health information, bank or card numbers, or government ID numbers.

How we use it

  • To run Heedie: answer questions, send morning briefings, leave-now nudges and reminders, work out weather and drive times, and text your staff when you ask.
  • To learn your household's routines so Heedie gets more useful over time.
  • To keep Heedie secure, prevent misuse and fix problems.
  • To contact you about your account or important changes.

We don't sell your information, use it for advertising, or use it to train our own AI models.

How Heedie uses AI

Heedie uses Anthropic's Claude AI model to understand messages and write replies. To answer a message, we send Anthropic the recent conversation and the parts of your household information Heedie needs (for example upcoming events, weather and saved facts). Anthropic's commercial terms say it does not train its models on this data. AI can make mistakes, so please check anything important.

Who helps us run Heedie

We use these service providers. Each gets only what it needs for its job and handles it under its own terms and privacy policy.

  • Supabase (United States): our database and website sign-in. Your household information is stored here.
  • Vercel (United States): hosts the Heedie website and the code that runs Heedie.
  • Sendblue (United States): sends and receives Heedie's text messages (iMessage, RCS and SMS). Sendblue's own terms allow it to use message data to improve its service. Apple, Google and mobile carriers also carry these messages under their own terms.
  • Anthropic (United States): the AI model that reads messages and writes Heedie's replies.
  • Composio (United States): connects Heedie to your Google Calendar and to Google Maps on our behalf.
  • Google: Google Calendar (your events) and Google Maps (finding your home and event locations, and drive times between them).
  • Open-Meteo (Switzerland): weather forecasts. It receives map coordinates only, never names or messages.
  • Inngest (United States): runs Heedie's background jobs, such as sending reminders on time. It may handle message details while a job runs.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of selling or transferring Heedie (in which case this policy would still apply to your information).

Where your information is stored

Heedie is run from Canada, but our providers store and process data in the United States and other countries. While it is there, it may be accessible to courts and authorities in those countries under their laws.

How long we keep it

We keep your household's information while your household uses Heedie. If you stop using Heedie or ask us to delete your data, we delete it within 30 days. Copies in backups are removed as those backups expire. We keep only what the law requires us to keep, and only for as long as it requires.

Your choices and rights

  • See your data: ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Fix it: ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete it: ask us to delete your data or your whole household's data.
  • Disconnect: you can disconnect your Google Calendar at any time from your Google account settings, or ask us to do it.
  • Withdraw consent: you can stop using Heedie at any time. Some features won't work without the information they need.

Email hello@heedie.com. We will reply within 30 days and may need to confirm who you are first.

In Canada, you have these rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

In the United States, some states (such as California) give residents rights to know, correct and delete their personal information. We honour those requests for everyone. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we won't treat you differently for using your rights.

People who didn't sign up

Heedie also handles information about people who didn't sign up themselves, such as other people in your group chat and your staff. The person who sets up Heedie is responsible for telling them that Heedie is in the chat and may text them, and for getting their OK. Anyone can email us to see or delete the information we hold about them, or to ask Heedie to stop texting them.

Children

Heedie is meant to be used by adults. Parents may tell Heedie their children's first names, ages and activities so it can help plan the family's day; we use that only to run Heedie for that household. Please don't add children under 13 to a chat that includes Heedie. If you think we have messages from a child under 13, contact us and we will delete them.

Cookies

The Heedie website uses only the cookies it needs to work: a sign-in cookie when you log in, and small preference cookies (such as light or dark mode and language). We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Security

Information travels over encrypted connections, each household's data is kept separate from every other household's, and access is limited to what is needed to run Heedie. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts you at real risk of significant harm, we will tell you and report it as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is important, we will also tell you by email or text before it takes effect.
